FIFA president Gianni Infantino has hailed the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar as the ‘best ever’, saying there are no longer ‘small teams’ and ‘big teams’. Infantino says the level at the tournament is ‘very equal’ after an opening phase that featured some major upsets. Former champions Argentina, Spain, Germany and Brazil all suffered shock group-stage losses. 0 Saudi Arabia is opening its land border to Qatar, a move that could lead to a resolution of the three-and-a-half-year diplomatic crisis that led to the blockade of the tiny Gulf state. The announcement on Monday came on the eve of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a diplomatic, trade and travel boycott on Qatar in June 2017, accusing Doha of supporting “terrorism” and having ties with Iran they said were too close.
