The UN says the conflict in Sudan has caused the world’s largest displacement crisis. Almost a year of fighting between the army and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has killed thousands of people, and forced millions from their homes. Thousands flee as war reaches Sudan’s second-largest city

Thousands of displaced people have fled the formerly safe city of Wad Madani in Sudan, as the war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) reaches the city. Paramilitary forces established a base in the east of Sudan’s second-largest city and the capital of al-Jazirah state, the AFP news agency reported on Sunday, forcing thousands of already displaced people to escape. Sudan civil conflict: Warring sides hold ceasefire talks in Jeddah

Ongoing conflict in northern Omdurman, Sudan has killed and injured civilians. Ceasefire talks resumed but past truces failed. Asma Hamid’s home in Khartoum was hit by an artillery shell fired by the paramilitary rapid support forces into northern Omdurman, where the Sudanese army is located. This previously safe area has been hit by hundreds of artillery strikes in the past month, killing or injuring dozens of civilians. Qatar delivers aid to Sudan & airlifts residents as clashes renew

Qatar’s Emiri Air Forces airlifted foreign nationals of friendly nations onboard its eleventh evacuation flight from Sudan on Wednesday, as the fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued into the second month. The UN says it has been able to deliver 15 tons of humanitarian aid to Sudan over the last month, including 50 truckloads within the first two days of the latest ceasefire. West Darfur governor killed: Rapid Support Forces denies involvement

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces has denied responsibility for the killing of the West Darfur regional governor. The army earlier said the paramilitary group had killed Khamis Abbabakr in el Geneina. No details of his death have been reported. Earlier Abbabakr had described the situation in the city as a ‘genocide’. The latest conflict has reignited long-running ethnic tensions in the Darfur region. Conflict in West Darfur: El-Geneina is the ‘worst place in the world’

Refugees and aid groups say the fighting in Darfur is less about the battle between the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces than it is an existential war between communities in the region. Masalit leaders report that militias are targeting their tribe, in particular, and some refugees are describing the persecution in el-Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, as a genocide.
