Thousands of people have joined student-led rallies in Thailand’s capital calling for political reforms.
They are demanding a new election and an amended constitution.
And, as Al Jazeera’s Wayne Hay reports from Bangkok, some Thais are touching a sensitive subject by calling for reform of the monarchy.

“Has warned the protesters to be careful of what they say” If you are a tax paying member of society you should be openly entitled to your opinion, be it negative or positive. The government should fear it’s people and not the other way around.

the ones who were interviewed? The Thais have VERY long names, but luckily everybody has a (usually) one syllable nickname that they use from a very young age (for example: Yim, Ton, Yai, Night, Kwan, Yod, Aek…)
Let these bored people go back to work! There is nothing to do in Thailand as tourists are not allowed in the country. And Thais are not allowed to travel out. So they do not know what ro do with their spare time.

I’ve been there 4 times (starting in 2005)….they deserve better! btw they have an excellent public health system (considering the overall poverty), that covers everybody…better than US (but you know that’s not saying much!)

These protestors will go largely ignored as always. Those who have secured power won’t give it up. Their new King seems to like living in Germany more than his own country.
The Thai people are wonderful, hard working people, they deserve better than what they have now.

@Richard Mercer yes, the economy must be a big driver (as it was here in the US with the BLM protests). My friend’s boyfriend lives in Pattaya and I’m told that a lot of homeless families are now living on the beach, many people are desperate.

However, you won’t be able to convince the politicians of that. If you speak out against them you will be shamed and bullied. Most people will give up a pound of freedom for an ounce of security. The Thai people have always been pretty smart about working with different countries. Everybody deserves good jobs, education, healthcare, and peace. Hoping for the best. Without money, capital, you don’t have democracy or human rights. Historically, every time Israel is once again open for business, it means folks around the globe are cashing out, hitting the road and heading home. Billions of people are going to die, but they probably wouldn’t have existed if it weren’t for this rigmarole. Later, when the time is right, Israel will cull the majority of its inhabitants, and the survivors will scatter to the four corners of the world.

the government said themselves that there are ZERO infection in thailand and the only infection comes from abroad which they have “strict control” on anyone entering or leaving thailand by quarantining them in state quarantine for 2 weeks no matter who it’ll be. If corona occur from thai-thai infection in the protest, those are solid proves that what the government say about having absolute ZERO case in thai-thai infection is a lie to boost up their PR images that they ruined way before covid started

American here, and although I certainly don’t support monarchies what should have been done was to give the crown to his sister…MUCH MUCH more respected and admired in Thailand than the current king, not even close.

If the people wants a reformed monarchy, then so be it. Monarchy is only as good if it’s popular to the people. We are no longer in medieval period, where a single family is above over all people.
Reform the monarchy, or risk the end of it.
I hope Thailand keeps the monarchy for traditions sake but gets a better government and abdicates the party king from the throne. Also hopefully lifting the draconian laws around criticizing the monarchy.
