Peru’s Congress has voted to remove President Martin Vizcarra from office in an impeachment trial over corruption allegations.
He is accused of accepting bribes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from companies that won public works contracts.
The vote came during his second Congressional trial in less than two months but he denies all of the allegations against him.
Vizcarra has popular public support because he introduced an anti-corruption drive in Peru.

@Rafael Calvay en mi opinión. Vizcarra si es corrupto. La razón es que los propios fiscales dicen eso. Fiscales que ojo recibieron mucho dinero de Vizcarra. Pero que ya no pueden seguir protegiendolo.
Mi opinión de porque sacaron a vizcarra. Ya en un terreno de especulacion. Es que las elites tenian miedo de que Antauro llegase al Poder. Si la ciudadanía, especialmente en provincias, seguian viendo que protegian la corrupción de vizcarra. Se hubiesen inclinado por un candidato radical. Así que hicieron la vacancia. Para que la población culpe a Antauro, y para que lo odien. Y así. Evitar que ese personaje llegue al poder. Quieren desinflar la ira de la población.
Claro. El precio a pagar. Es haber enfadado a los fans de vizcarra. Pero pienso que la mayoría de ellos son jóvenes que no entienden bien como funciona el Perú. Y Vizcarra era, como.el Alan Garcia de su generación.

People in Perú need to brace themselves to face the crisis. Revolts will not solve anything. Start fighting corruption, bribery and dishonesty in their own homes.

I am originally from Perú & I lived over there until I turned 36… regular Peruvians are not the kind of people that march in this way… in all the “big protest” that we had in the past… ALL the people “taking the streets”, where ALWAYS with the “support” “transportation”, “money” & “incentives” of NGO’S Institutions behind… if somebody else doesn’t know What is going on, in my country (I still have family living over there) I am just going to break this for you:
1) President Vizcarra wasn’t elected, he was the Vice-President of President Pedro Pablo Kuckzinsky, known also as PPK (He was the Representative of one of the Right Political Parties, in Perú we have A LOT Political Parties…) he made “strategic” agreement with the Left… and the result was put Vizcarra as his Vice-President…
2) After corruption accusations against PPK, the Congress at the time initiated an impeachment process… and little before he was Impeached… he decides to RESIGN, so VIZCARRA as his Vice-President took the power…
3) How Vizcarra Political party didn’t have the majority of the Congress… it was very difficult to achieve any measurements that he wanted to rule (Most of them Progressive ideas and against mining between other things…)
4) In 2019, and because that “Congress was so obstructive”, according to Vizcarra claims, Vizcarra decides “to close the Congress” because “they were too corrupted and obstructive… and convoque new Congress Elections… What is Unconstitutional by the way…BUT that decision “had 70% of popular approvall…
5) The NEW Congress starts receiving more that 50 corruption accusations against President Vizcarra during the time he was a Governor in Moquegua… a Peruvian Province…
6) The Congress in a session an because the facts presented decides to impeached President Vizcarra… again and again Vizcarra claims that this Congress is highly corrupt… by the way, Impeached a president is Constitutional…
7) AL the MSM repeat exactly the same as President Vizcarra said “This current Congress is very very corrupt”…
8) By the way, since the Presidency of Alejandro Toledo (yes, the one that fly away from Perú and has an accusation of receive 1million dollars from ODEBRECHT… yes, him!) … The Peruvian Government invest money of the taxes that ALL the Peruvians pays… on ADVERTISING IN ALL MSM…
Despite the Peruvian Government also has a National TV CHANNEL (Channel 7] and a National Newspaper (Diario El Peruano) to make Publicity of all the “accomplishments” of the current Government…
So, is this “Public march” genuine? …. is this a President that is so honorable than despite all the deaths in my country due to Coronavirus (Perú is number ONE in ALL AMERICA) and that his totalitarian measurements that kept Peruvians inside their houses more than 4 months and demand the close of all business (Except Supermarkets and Hospitals…) that were the main reason my country today has an almost a bankrupt of the Economy…
A president that also demands everybody stay at their home and avoid to whatever cost be so near to another people… and put that pressure everyday…
Is he so successful than the Peruvian people go an GENUINELY march defending him, despite Covid exposure…

@Laura M Similar to many news media in north america, peruvian news media gets a lot of money from the government to make them look good. Please do your research and seek various sources of information within Peru. Presidents and congressmen are corrupt. No doubt. Corruption is everywhere… schools, universities, workplaces, not just government or police. Just ask anyone what “coima” means. It feels more benign when its not involving politics but its engrained in the culture.
