A delegation from Southern Africa’s regional bloc is due to arrive in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, on a fact-finding mission.
For days, Eswatini, Africa’s last absolute monarchy, has been rocked by the largest pro-democracy protests in years that have seen security forces engage mostly young demonstrators defying an overnight curfew in running street battles.
The protests were sparked by a June 24 decree by King Mswati III, banning citizens from sending petitions to parliamentarians to demand democratic reforms. It followed a public outcry against the alleged killing by the police of a law student, Thabani Nkomonye, in May.

Most African and south asian countries are in chaos right now with rampant corruption and cultural breakdown. On the other hand most stable countries in the world right now are the countries having constitutional monarchy! as a Swazi citizen , i thank Al Jazeera for reporting about Eswatini , this shows that we are in trouble and has left us scared for our lives . His Majesty needs to realise that his unacceptable behaviour has caused all of this mess , that’s why the people want him and his family to get out . people have lost their lives due to the security forces taking them unecessarily , and for that i am very disappointed . the King needs to give the people what they want , otherwise this kind of terror is going to continue and more innocent lives are going to be taken away unecessarily .
