US President Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has said the United States government has told Russia “there will be consequences” if Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny dies in prison.
Biden has denounced his treatment as unfair. Navalny’s health is rapidly deteriorating, and he runs the risk of kidney failure, according to his doctor.
He is on a hunger strike for more than three weeks.

Julian Assange has been held in Belmarsh high security jail since he was carried out of the Ecuadorian embassy on April 11 2019 by police before being arrested for breaching his bail conditions. He was sentenced to 50 weeks imprisonment (52 weeks is the maximum term). He had served this sentenced but has not been released. He is being held in the United Kingdom, one of the oldest continuous democracies. The UK is also a NATO member and a permanent member of the UN security council.
