I am a guy from Assam (Kalita caste), I have Aryan features with extremely fair skin. I had to face racism in South India coz I looked like a North Indian. I faced racism in arunachal and Nagaland coz I looked like a mainland Indian. Never faced racism in the US and Canada coz I am good looking and I have a natural American accent. I feel more at home in Mumbai than in guwahati coz I look so different than a stereotypical North Eastern.

I am from NE India, guwahati Assam. I did my entire schooling from ukg to 4th year btech NIT TRICHY in South India. Not once have I felt that I was an outsider. I lived and loved my Tamil, Telugu friends. Everytime I got back from my holidays in college I used to take the early morning bus from city to Nit Trichy campus, I looked at the people and I always felt that these are my people, I always made sure to help the busy Tamil traders carry heavy vegetables into the bus. I look at them and all I saw and felt that they were MY PEOPLE.
Don’t portray the entire India as anti ne. We gave our blood during Japanese invasion of India in Nagaland, Assam regiment. I would gladly give my life for India. Jai Hind. 🇮🇳

There are many mainland Indians in the NE too. I met an incident where a drunk guy was racially abusing a Bihari in Manipur. But the public bystanders help in favour of the Bihari! Which will not happen if a NE people get abused in mainland India, the public bystanders will join the abusers too! Yes, I’ve seen such incident in Delhi, even though the NE guy did nothing wrong!

I love my NE brothers and sisters. I hate racism and any form of partiality. But here are some opposite views on what i think is missing from our brothers and sisters from the NE.
Please try to integrate yourself more with people from other parts of India. I remember when a person from north India comes to South, he bring sweets from the north and vice versa – see how the north and south developed closeness. Our brother and sisters from the NE should understand this relationship. Please move out more, migrate more, integrate more, make friends more.
Further, develop your state and your industries (tourism, etc.) that people may throng to your states. Your states are already so beautiful – please make use of it.
North Indians love south indian food and south Indians love north Indian food. Please open more restaurants for NE food across india.
Please send your children for education to the many universities in India (south or north). Don’t just restrict them in your homes and farms.
Let your children rise in ranks in offices and their jobs. E.g. why is it so rare that we see any person from the NE at a high company position? Come on guys make yourself known – make an impact.
I believe there are many more such points that my friends from NE can think and ponder about.
I hope you take this positively. You are not just Indians, but you are our pride.
