Medics in Myanmar on strike against military amid COVID-19 crisis

0 Public sector medical workers across Myanmar began a civil disobedience protest against Monday’s coup saying they would refuse to work under the new military government, threatening the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. On Wednesday, prosecutors filed obscure criminal charges against state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and her ally President Win Myint. The president’s accused of breaching coronavirus measures on the campaign trail last year; Aung San Suu Kyi’s charges stem from the possession of walkie talkies. Widespread protests in Myanmar’s Yangon after NLD condemns coup, calls for leaders’ release.

0 The UN Security Council has failed to agree on a joint statement condemning Monday’s coup in Myanmar. Aung San Suu Kyi was among dozens of political figures picked up by the army, and reportedly remains under house arrest. The National League for Democracy’s (NLD) party has called for Aung San Suu yi immediate release and for the army to acknowledge the November 2020 election results. In Myanmar’s largest city Yangon, residents banged pots and pans as part of widespread protests. Taiwan air force flexes muscles after latest Chinese incursion
