A sharp increase in the amount of money sent back home by expats is fueling an investment boom in The Gambia.
And much of that cash is ending up the real estate sector.
An estimated 120,000 Gambians live and work overseas, most of them in Europe and the United States.
It is a sign of hope for an economy that has been battered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
And the influx of cash is even drawing some back to the country.
Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from the capital, Banjul.

Well, if Government officers decide to be corrupt, use various ways to get hold of the money, they are likely to live luxuriously, for example order themselves luxury vehicles from abroad and the economic boom will be short-lived.
However, if those who get the money can circulate it locally for longer, creating employment and potentially products and services for foreign markets, then the economic boom will be sustained for quite sometime.
