Cyprus ends citizenship through investment scheme

Cyprus has abolished a lucrative programme granting citizenship in turn for investments after an Al Jazeera expose. The parliamentary speaker who is seen in the undercover video says he will abstain from duties until an investigation is completed. Belarus protesters continue pressure on Lukashenko with new march

Tens of thousands of people marched through Minsk on Sunday calling on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to step down in mass demonstrations that showed no sign of abating nearly a month after the election his opponents say was rigged. Columns of protesters defied a government warning not to march, waving red-and-white opposition flags and shouting “go away” and “you’re a rat”. The human rights group Spring-96 said at least 70 people were arrested. ‘No more fear!’: Belarus president heckled by striking workers

In an unprecedented act, workers at a factory shouted down Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko, who has long been referred to as the father of the nation. Protesters across the country have made it clear they want Alexander Lukashenko out. The main opposition leader, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, said she is ready to lead a transition and is calling on the security forces to switch sides. EU prepares new Belarus sanctions amid call for weekend protests

The European Union is preparing sanctions against officials in Belarus who are responsible for a deadly post-election crackdown on protesters, the EU foreign affairs chief, Josep Borrell, has said.
