Taliban forces have sealed off Kabul’s airport to most Afghans hoping for evacuation, as the United States and its allies wound down a chaotic airlift that will end their troops’ two decades in Afghanistan. Afghan refugees urged to cross Pakistan land borders

Afghans who missed the evacuation flights are being encouraged by the West to try to leave by land borders. But authorities in neighbouring Pakistan are denying media reports of unprecedented numbers entering via Spin Boldak and Torkham borders. Afghan refugee group arrives in Mexico after fleeing Taliban rule

Mexico has accepted yet another group of refugees from Afghanistan which include 124 journalists and their families. They landed in Mexico City’s international airport on Wednesday morning where Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard welcomed them in person. Their arrival follows the successful evacuation of an Afghan girls’ robotics team to the country on Tuesday. Mexico has taken in migrants and refugees from Central America but some experts have voiced concern about its ability to give them proper care. Army Major General William Taylor, with the U.S. military’s Joint Staff, told a news briefing more than 10,000 people were at Kabul airport waiting to be evacuated from Afghanistan. The Pentagon claimed it evacuated some 19,000 people in the past 24 hours. Taliban issues new warning against extending evacuation deadline

The Taliban says it will not extend the August 31 deadline for foreign forces to evacuate American citizens and Afghans the US has worked with from Kabul airport. But Western countries warn the mission cannot be accomplished by the date given. Speaking at a news conference in the capital Kabul on Tuesday, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the US to stop taking skilled Afghans out of the country. Chaos and violence as crowds keep growing outside Kabul airport

The crowds outside Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport continue to grow with each passing day of Taliban rule. Thousands of Afghans and foreigners are still waiting to flee Afghanistan, with more chaotic scenes at the airport. Getting there is perilous; the Taliban patrols the roads around the airport, the last remaining members of a CIA-backed Afghan intelligence force controls the last stretches leading to the north gate of the airport, and finally, foreign troops guard the mammoth gate.
